A Message from the Head & Deputy Head of School 2015-16
Sixth Formers are like ducks. In the words of
Michael Caine, we are “calm on the surface
but always paddling like the dickens
underneath”. We are constantly facing
challenges as we attempt to balance our social
lives with schoolwork and hobbies. However,
despite the stress that life continuously throws
at us, we still somehow manage to plaster
smiles on our faces and attempt to remain
unruffled. Although we occasionally have to
stop and wiggle our tails in the air in moments
of madness, we otherwise keep our stamina
levels high as we paddle through the turbulent
waters of our final school year.
When we first donned our navy uniforms and
stepped foot in the fabled Common Room,
we never would have guessed just what a
whirlwind our final two years would be. Firstly,
the dreaded A Levels that have to be
conquered, and even though this task
sometimes seems impossible, we’re battling
through with the help of our incredible
teachers. Secondly, all the extra-curricular
activities we thrive off that have kept many of
us going this year; the music, drama, dance
and sport. Then there are the leadership
opportunities that we undertook, from
Sports Captain to Head of School, Subject
Prefects to various different committees, as we
tried to leave a legacy as a year group. And
finally, and arguably most importantly, we
made friendships to last a lifetime, not just
amongst forms and year groups, but
throughout the whole School. Friendships
we will cherish with the memories we can
never forget. We believe that this is the
most important element of the School that
needs to be protected and treasured; we are
a family.
“Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath”
