PE and Games

cricketVia lessons and extra-curricular activities, every pupil is given the opportunity to participate in a wide range of activities. We hope that everyone will find one or more sports that they enjoy, and that they will feel confident enough to participate in sport after they have left school.

From Year 3 to 13 we run successful teams in the major games (hockey, netball, tennis, rounders, athletics and cross-country for the girls; football, rugby, cricket, athletics, tennis and cross-country for the boys in the junior school). We regularly have fixtures against other schools and enter inter-school tournaments and county competitions in all the above sports. There are also Inter-House competitions in each of them which are keenly contested.

tennisSenior School students experience a wider curriculum, with badminton, basketball, volleyball, rugby and football being added. Rowing (indoor and on the water), squash, fitness classes, ultimate Frisbee are further activities added for Years 11-13.

Gymnastics is also taught as part of our curriculum up to Year 9, with displays involving girls and boys from Year 3 upwards. Each year is also involved in a year group display or competition.

Rowing is also a major activity; since it's introduction in 2005/06 we have had at least three teams every year who have been National Champions in the Concept 2 Indoor Rowing Schools League. We enter teams of 4s and 8s from each year group from Year 6 up to Sixth Form.  This year five teams gained gold medals and were crowned National Champions.

Physical Education is also taught, very successfully, at GCSE, AS and A2 levels with many students continuing their studies into Further Education.
