Sixth Form

Mr McManusWelcome to the Sixth Form. The Peterborough School’s Sixth Form continues to grow in size and popularity and now offers a fully co-educational experience.

The Sixth Form is the part of the School where students are treated as young adults and are encouraged to make their own choices and decisions, but a strong support network is in place for them. Small tutorial groups of around 10 students from both year groups allow students to work closely with and get to know their tutor very well.  The ethos throughout is hardworking, friendly and supportive, with everyone aiming to get the best results possible for every student.

The challenging curriculum offers a wide range of 20 subjects and there is a focus on traditional academic subjects. Students are also encouraged to take up the AQA Baccalaureate, which involves completion of an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) and an AS Level in either Critical Thinking or General Studies.

Academic results are excellent:  we have had a 100% pass rate at A Level for the past five years and in 2012, 69% of all grades were at A*, A or B.  We offer excellent preparation for university:  around 90% of students gain admission to their first choice institution and Oxbridge and Russell Group universities are very popular. The Headmaster personally reviews all personal statements on applications before submission.

Beyond the classroom there are many opportunities to develop leadership skills and participate in activities which allow students to grow in confidence and maturity.  There are many and varied positions of responsibility and extra curricular avtivities include Debating, Young Enterprise, The Duke Of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme, Youth Council, the Charities Committee, Choirs and Orchestra and House Events. Sporting opportunities inlcude access to the new Sports Facility's fitness suite and the Games programme also offers a wide range of options including personal fitness, ice skating, personal safety and others that the students select.

Students are encouraged to take ownership of their own learning and they have a dedicated study area in addition to access to the Learning Resource Centre and IT Suite.  For relaxation, the Common Room provides a suitable leisure space and is equipped with new furniture, a TV, a Wii, an iPod dock and kitchen facilities.
